PROSPECTIVE & CURRENT STUDENTS START HERE!

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers four undergraduate programs and strives to give students a strong theoretical background and the ability to apply what they know to a wide range of biological, chemical and physical systems. An “experimental” component to each program allows students to get more intimately involved with science through research or practice, and to develop a greater sense of identity as a chemist or biochemist. Students are prepared upon graduation to work as chemists and biochemists in academic, industrial and governmental settings. In addition, these programs of study provide an excellent foundation for advanced studies in biochemistry, chemistry and related graduate programs as well as professional schools in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and osteopathy.

B.S. in Biochemistry

The Bachelor of Science degree program provides students with a strong scientific foundation for those interested in careers which involve laboratory research or graduate studies in the field of biochemistry. It requires at least 1 year of research experience in a lab, and culminates in a Senior Capstone project.

B.A. in Biochemistry

The Bachelor of Arts degree program provides students with those same scientific foundations, and it allows more flexibility for students who aim to pursue double majors or minors in different areas of study. The B.A. is designed for students interested in non-laboratory or health-related professions.

B.A. in Chemistry

The Bachelor of Arts degree program provides students with the same foundations in chemistry, but students can choose to focus on certain chemistry areas that suit their interests and goals. This path may be suitable for those students interested in working a field which requires chemistry, but is less research-focused.
